This beautiful one of a kind Wayuu Hand Crafted, Crocheted, Fair Trade Bag is stitched with two threads.  It takes about 10 days to make each bag. The strap is made with just a single thread making it very sturdy and it will NOT stretch like two stitch straps.

The Wayuu Tribe is an artisan community that live in the La Guajira desert on the border of Columbia and Venezuela.  The women are dedicated to keeping their traditional Wayuu craft of weaving and crocheting alive. The Wayuu use both traditional and more modern patterns in their woven and crocheted bags. 

Their traditional intricate patterns depict kanaas, or symbolical drawings that depict day-to-day life for the Wayuu that have been passed down through generations since pre-Columbian times.

The Wayuu ancestors tell stories about the spider Wale Keru, who taught the women of the tribe how to make household items and tools.

Weaving and crocheting have the utmost cultural relevance for the people of the Wayuu tribe. The rites of passage for women include becoming a master weaver and to weave your mochila.
